[So hypothetically if you were to dismantle the 'unjust social structure' today, there would be no poverty tomorrow?]
Maybe not by ‘tomorrow’ (the effects of the unjust social structure would linger, and we’re assuming that it’s outcomes included poverty and not just religious/gender oppression), but the trajectory would be towards less inequality in a society.

[There is no evidence whatsoever, to show that Aryan culture and languages arrived in
[Linguistic?]
[No Linguistic evidence to show Aryan migration, (forget the invasion).]
Actually, there is. Look at our Indo-Aryan languages, look at other Aryan languages (eg Farsi). Look at the varying impact of Sanskrit on languages the further South of the Vindhyas you go – whether linked at the root to evolved words, or preserved in entirety as ‘loan words’ in the language. The linguistic evidence is for movement INTO
[There is no language called Aryan]
There is a group of related languages that are called the Aryan languages.
[there is no race or group of people called Aryan. ]
Uff, any group that speaks an Aryan language is, de facto, an Aryan group. The way we use the word in English, mind you, so not necessarily noble.
[But does the study suggest anything about what languages these early humans spoke? Munda? Dravidian? Aryan? Indo-Tibetan? Something else entirely?]
[No, the study is not about language. ]
So why did you post it with reference to Aryan/Dravidian stuff? The peopling of
[Being proud of ones own culture and civilization is not fundamentalist. Self-respect does not mean hatred for others.]
That’s right. So why get so angry at the thought that all of our ancestors came to
[These guys have a vested political interest in portraying history in a particular manner... Do you think the AIT/AMT proponents or their adherents did not or does not have any political interest? Were they not "creating" history in a particular manner?]
ALL history is subjective, and created with some sort of agenda. Because it’s created by human beings.
[ It will be useful, if you look at yourself in a mirror before judging on others. ]
Quite. What’s your agenda?
And please note: agenda of historians does not create evidence (such as linguistic) or make it disappear (such as MtDNA).

[If the education was available to all the how does it imply an extreme form of caste oppression ??]
I’m not sure that ‘numbers in school’, taken by itself, implies anything about degree of caste oppression. Nobody would doubt that Bangladeshi Hindus are currently oppressed – but I would be surprised if this was reflected in their level of participation in education.
[ The present fury and theoretical formulation against the organization of Indian society into caste, whatever the justification or otherwise of caste today, thus begins with British rule.]
But does that automatically invalidate any and all criticisms of caste?
Parthiban Siva,
I could have written an exact article a few years back.. But not anymore..
First off, I had zero knowledge of either RSS or Islam. I grew up in a strong anti-Brahmin family and grew up with anti-Hindu feelings..
You have to come out with clear proof of RSS/BJP's upper caste leanings. The BJP chief minister in Jharkand is a tribal and in Gujarat/Madhya Pradesh are OBCs.. Also I remember once Advani visited Kanchi mutt (typically related to the high caste Brahmins..) he made it a point to visit the nearby Melmaruvathur mutt (run by a low caste bangaru adigalar)..
RSS/VHP claims they are against caste discrimination which is welcome.. Only if you quote clear instances/incidents of their hidden "upper-caste" motives would I be convinced.
I don't know if you have read Quran.. Please take some time to read it. It is much more damaging the much discredited Manusmriti..
Anand,

Please give references for the statistics and studies that need to be read."
These stats are easily available .
Poverty rate % of population

Now I repeat, For a change read real statistics and study how nations develop and people prosper.
However, I am glad to notice you have dropped your defence of the failed system of socialism and communism.
I have my opinions that are arrived based my readings, observations, discussions, and analysis. I always express my opinions as my own and do not claim divine sanction nor seek left intellectual approval. If you have read the newpapers columns of various hues following the Bihar results, you would have to agree that my opinions have more company than lame excuses provided by your friends on the left and Laloo.
"Do you also know why the BJP (of feel good days) lost the last elections; why Chadrababu Naidu (the erstwhile CEO) lost in AP? And why the Congress lost in MP and Rajasthan -- with pro-liberalisation CMs? And why it took the people of
I have opinions on those questions. I have expressed them on Sulekha before. Indian voter's economic and political knowledge level is improving but the process has many more learning cycles to go. There are varying degrees of maturity among population and varying degrees of maturity between various groups.
Took too long to throw out: Congress after Independence, Left front in WB, and Laloo in Bihar.
Reaction to major events: Congress loss after emergency (reaction to Emegency), Congress win 1984(IG's killing), BJP ascendency in 1990s ( Ram Mandir) and Gujarat in 2003(Godhra/Gujarat Roits).
Punishing economic reformers: PVN and MMS in 1996, NDA in 2004, Naidu in 2004, SM Krishna(Karnataka) in 2004.
I am looking forward to some more economic develoment leading to enlargement of middle class and media reaching all corners on a real time basis to change the nature of electorate. They could become more individualistic. This will start breaking the strangle hold of vote banks and public corruption ( I know there will be new corrupt methods but change is better). In a decade or two religious politics(both Anti Muslim and Anti Hindu in the garb of 'psuedo' secularism) may lose their strength.
Economic prosperity will be the key issue.
India dodged a bullet in the last election. It is lucky that MMS was put in charge instead of Arjun or Natwar or Pranab. It is a fact that MMS's lack of mass base causes him to bow down to Sonia dynasty(he is probably truly grateful to the dynasty) , Laloo and Left. Reforms have slowed compared to 2002 to 2004 but he is smart enough to find ways to push economy. He cartainly is the best of the Congress lot.
What if Nation's options were Laloo or Mayawati or Mulayam or Dave Gowda or JyotiBasu or Bal thackrey or Uma Bharati or Karunanidhi (I am sure I am missing many worthies like Afzal Ansari of Gazhipur) in future? India could stare at a future similar to Somalia?
It is accepted that Indian electorate does not have a great choice on left or right or center. But one can only hope that voters will choose wisely among the possible choices before them.
Dear Doctor:
Iunderstand your frustrations with the medical syastem in US. I am a pediatrician and we seldom get sued but we live here in a very litigious society. The itch to sue is strongest in the uninsured.
A little information for the common man.In the US we don't get a commision for ordering labs unlike some places in India. Our charts are audited by a separate body.
There is determination of medical necessity by the insurance company and a peer review of the patient files who have been treated by us.In fact patients question us we didn't do a specific test which they think is necesary.Medical ethics is nonexistant in India, not here.
Don't blame the doctor if your insurance premiums are high-it's because of these litigious people.
