cool, dude. It was interesting reading about your experiences.

I once had similar restlessness, but ultimately figured out travelling and leaving my job is not what i *really* wanted. But in your case, you seem to have figured out what you want. good for you.

I appreciate the approval and criticizm both from the readership. However, to Bombaywallah and others who have taken the liberty to attack me personally, I say back off. If you have something to say about the issues, say it. Don't go about name calling those whose opinion differs from you. I am perfectly capable of calling you a lot of names too. But Sulekha was not created to be a forum for shouting matches.

I have a major problem with six billion dollars spent on 11K athletes in 2 weeks. That is half a million dollars per person. It is unconscionable while a billion people on this planet do not even make a dollar a day. If you don't have a problem with that, that is your opinion. It is clear to me that the planet can not sustain the such activities of the Western culture. The flora and fauna of the planet is fast disappearing. It should be a cause of concern to anybody who can think beyond the corporate bottom line.

There is nothing hypocritical about my expressing my views. It is clear that some readers are so infantile in their thinking that if I express my views about certain excesses in a society, I should immediately pack up my bags and go to India. I never said that India does not have excesses either. Some readers of Sulekha will do well to take a deep breath before they start fomenting their knee-jerk reactions.

What is hypocritical and cowardly is that many of the readers assume pseudonyms and attack from behind the cover of anonymity. I request Sulekha publishers to discourage people from hurling personal attacks and encourage them to stick to the issues when they post their opinions.

on Luck?

Interesting questionss. Made me search for an article that I read sometime back (The link below points to the article). Essentially, Dr.Wiseman (now thats a psychologist I am willing to believe :D) urges people to expect good fortune and to look on the bright side. While I don't think I can agree with him entirely (his patients/subjects could simply be deluding themselves!!) I do think there is an element of truth. The last time I read, a similar article (I must have read it from a different source) mentioned attentiveness, i.e. if I pay enough attention to details then I may potentially avoid a lot of blunders or I might strike upon some treasure that evaded other's eyes. for e.g. if I add a fine print saying I will give $5 mln to the first person who reads this message and relays it back to me and the first detail'iac to spot it would consider herself/himself lucky (for no one before her/him saw it!!) Anyways, I thought this was an interesting article and somewhat relavant to your blog. Good luck ;-)

How to be lucky

I'm falling ever behind in my movie watching, I see. But there's just so much to see what with keeping track of new releases and delving into the past and now, my latest obsession - foreign films. Have a couple (a couple? More like 50) downloads that I have yet to watch.

Curse ye movie gods! I'm only human......

I know this one is definitely on my list (along with 137 others....and counting)

"One of the best scenes(and there are many in this movie) is the way the director explains the "house"(pot-house run by the lady later inherited by the fav.boy).Pure genius"

rama, yup ... that house morphing from one to the other in just a couple of frames :-)))

.. another favorite ... benny's murder caught in a strobe at his going-away party ... rocket trying hard to win favors with a hottie by getting her dope, and ending up in that house .... and then you see the same scene at different times from different perspectives (and that happens a number of times in the movie as the movie cycles back, now & then, to catch up on a side-narrative....

like you said, tons of images that stick with you.... i think, after _pulp fiction_, this was one movie that really *really* blew me away ....
